I Forgot How To Ride For A Moment 🤦‍♀️ (Show Vlog)
There’s a saying, “It’s just like riding a bike,” but apparently, that doesn’t always apply to horses. This weekend, I experienced the ultimate brain-fog moment at the show, and honestly, I’m still laughing about it.
The morning started off great—early coffee, spotless tack, and my horse, Bella, looking stunning after her pre-show grooming. The warm-up went smoothly, and I was feeling confident as we approached our class. Then, for some inexplicable reason, the second we entered the arena, it was like my brain decided to go on vacation.
The course looked simple enough—standard hunter layout—but as we approached the first fence, I forgot everything. My stride? Gone. My rhythm? Who needs it? Bella, bless her heart, tried her best to understand my garbled signals, but I was practically flopping around up there.
I went into autopilot, overthinking every little thing. Half-halts became accidental full stops, and I couldn’t find a consistent pace to save my life. After a very awkward jump over fence three, I heard my trainer yell, “BREATHE!” from the sidelines, and it clicked.
I took a deep breath, relaxed my hands, and finally started riding again. Bella immediately responded, as if saying, “Thank you!” We finished the course with a few minor hiccups but in much better form than we started.
The best part? Laughing about it later with friends. Every rider has moments like these, where nerves and overthinking get the best of them. It’s humbling, but also a reminder of why we do this—because even on our worst days, there’s joy in the connection we share with our horses.
Here’s to forgetting, laughing, and learning. Until next time, remember: breathe, trust yourself, and trust your horse! 💕
